FIS Cross-Country World Cup – Cogne, Italy
The FIS Cross-Country World Cup made its long-awaited return to Cogne, Italy, for the first time since 2019—and it did not disappoint. Nestled in the Aosta Valley, this picturesque venue served as the perfect backdrop for a weekend packed with high-stakes racing, even though many stars decided to take a break.
In the men’s team sprint, Team Norway’s Even Northug and Erik Valnes came out on top, giving Norway the last word few weeks before the upcoming World Championships. In spite the absence of Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo. Their win also kicked off what became a Norwegian clean sweep, as Norwegian men claimed every podium spot in the individual races across the weekend.
On the women’s side, Team Finland delivered one of the most emotional storylines—returning to glory in a team event for the first time in 12 years. Their performance lit up the venue and marked a major milestone for Finnish skiing.
Maja Dahlqvist made a powerful statement by claiming her first sprint World Cup victory in three years, showing she’s back at the top of her game. Meanwhile, Laura Gimmler finally broke through after multiple close calls—earning her first-ever World Cup podium in front of a thrilled crowd. A long time coming, and richly deserved.
Whilst top Swedish and Norwegian competitors were absent focusing on training and preparation for the World Championships later this month, injured Jessie Diggins of the U.S. notched her 20th career distance World Cup victory, further cementing her legacy as one of the greatest to ever ski in red, white, and blue.
