FIS Cross-Country World Cup – Engadin, Switzerland

The FIS Cross-Country World Cup made a thrilling return to the stunning Engadin Valley in Switzerland for the first time since 2021—and it delivered big moments on every front.

What a story for the home crowd: Jonas Baumann, at 34 years old, stepped onto his first-ever World Cup podium by taking bronze in the Mixed Relay, right on home snow in Engadin. A dream moment for the Swiss veteran, cheered on by Swiss fans in the breathtaking Alpine valley.

In the skate sprint, Jonna Sundling added another chapter to her dominant season, claiming her third World Cup victory of the year with characteristic power and precision. Jessie Diggins broke a pole in the finals but still finished sixth, high-fiving kids along the course in her signature positive style.

Meanwhile, Johannes Høsflot Klæbo returned to racing after a short break and reminded everyone why he’s the sport’s biggest name. He claimed victories in both the skate sprint—marking his 100th individual World Cup win—and the 20 km skate mass start. Despite the point-to-point format starting in St. Moritz and looping through Engadin three times, along with the high altitude, Klæbo was unfazed—cruising to yet another double victory with ease.

A huge milestone came for Norway’s Nora Sanness, who secured her first-ever World Cup podium in the women’s mass start, finishing second behind a dominant Astrid Øyre Slind. The race had all the hallmarks of a Ski Classics marathon—terrain where Slind previously thrived before returning to the World Cup circuit.

Set in a broad, high-altitude valley (at 1,800 meters—nearly 6,000 feet—making it the highest stop on the 2025 World Cup tour) and ringed by soaring Alpine peaks, Engadin provided a picture-perfect yet demanding stage. A truly, a spectacular weekend in the heart of the Alps.
